The main thrust of this research is to explore the notion that Information Technology (IT) is not used to its full potential amongst the nation’s manufacturing SMEs (Small to Medium Enterprises) and to suggest possible developments to help alleviate this problem.  The research has been commissioned by Norfolk & Waveney Business Link and the fieldwork covers the period November 1997 to February 1998.
SMEs for the purposes of this research are those companies with less than 500 employees.  Research and development to be undertaken to lead to the development of “a cost effective service for manufacturing SMEs focused on the identification and implementation of ‘IT for competitive strategies’.”
