Abstract:

This project was funded by the Essex Post 16 Transport Partnership to establish the ways in which transport and other related access issues affect young people’s decisions about whether to participate in post 16 training and/or education, in Essex. The research was longitudinal in design and provides information on the reasons why students aged 16 chose to attend particular colleges and at which point, and why, their decisions may have changed. The research identifies methods of reducing barriers to young people’s participation in post compulsory education and/or training by improving access through better transport information, provision and understanding of available help. The project used both Qualitative and quantitative research methods which was longitudinal in design.
