In December 2003, The Norwich Diocesan Board for Social Responsibility (BSR) approached the Research Centre at City College Norwich (CCN) to work in collaboration to conduct a survey of all Benefices in the Norwich Diocese.
The work of the Board for Social Responsibility is rooted in God’s command to love our neighbour as ourselves and, therefore, to care for the socially wounded, seeking to transform unjust structures of society and to safeguard the integrity of creation and life on earth. 
There are ~600 parishes within the Diocese with ~200 benefices covering these parishes.  A need has been highlighted to investigate these issues and raise awareness, identifying areas of need within the Diocese.  An evaluation of the current situation within the Diocese was initiated with the aim of contributing to community cohesion through this research.
