This document is the second edition of the Handbook for academic review, intended for use for the review period 2004-2006.  The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education carries out reviews of directly funded higher education in further education colleges in England.  The reviews focus on the establishment, maintenance and enhancement of academic standards and the quality of learning opportunities.  This handbook describes the methods and procedures for carrying out the review of directly funded HE provision, which is a statutory responsibility of HEFCE.
