A Guide of Best Practice for Classroom Observation in Initial Teacher Training in the Learning and Skills Sector
This guide aims to enhance the effectiveness of formative assessment in trainee teachers teaching practice following the Department for Education and Skills reform for Initial Teacher Training (ITT) within the Learning and Skills Sector (DfES 2004). The recommendations are based on the finding of research investigating the process of classroom observation and feedback given to trainee teachers. It also addresses the importance of other procedures including observation of experienced teachers paired observation microteaching and dissemination of good teaching practice. The guidelines were based on a literature review on best practice of classroom observation and feedback and data collected from current practice analysis and trials of observation models.
