Evaluation in the Voluntary Sector
The project was to achieve its aims through the application of action research based on the premise that practitioners would be enabled to reflect – in a structured way – on their actions and the developments emanating from these actions and these reflections would inform subsequent actions. The project involved the recruitment of 16 participants from 9 voluntary sector organisations. These participants worked through a series of practical evaluation workshops and in between workshops received mentoring support for projects they had fostered within their organisations. A model of three workshops with supporting learning materials evolved for the development and dissemination of qualitative evaluation skills within the voluntary sector. It was also recommended that a system of mentoring be integrated within the model.
Following this, 51 participants from 35 voluntary sector organisations in four areas; Harlow, Otley, Ipswich and Cambridge piloted the model of three workshops with Cambridge receiving integrating mentoring support provided by the project manager.
