Abstract:

This represents the first section in a three-part report tasked with identifying levels of demand, application areas (identified by potential users), and infrastructure issues for the demonstration of telematic systems and services.  As the preliminary submission, this report describes a series of ten in-depth telematics demonstrations in rural locations.  Issues regarding strategic deployment,   deployment and positioning of facilities, services and supporting infrastructure retrieved from participants of the events will be discussed in relation to regional and national ICT developments.  The primary objective of the series of demonstrations that this report describes was to take the Information Communication Technology that comprises the telematics environment out to the general public in the United Kingdom’s region of Norfolk, to gauge reactions to its application.  In the light of regional, national and European developments in the field, the appraisal seeks to establish both level of need and level of interest in the rural hinterland that the region represents.  Informal in character, these demonstrations sought to be a vehicle for individuals to ascertain how the rapid advance of global communication technology could add quality to their particular lifestyles and communities, without seeking to train any subject or foist any concept upon them that may seem superfluous to their needs.
