The Research Centre are awarded the NFER Research Engaged School and College Award

The Research Centre has been successful in its application to get City College Norwich rewarded as a research engaged institution, having received the NFER Research Engaged College Award this week. This award is administered and granted by the National Foundation for Educational Research NFER with the support of LSIS, NUT, Ifl, NCSL and Education Journal and has been granted to only six other schools and colleges so far. Research Workshops - Dates and venues

On behalf of the Higher Education Academy, Angus Carpenter (Research Centre Manager, City College Norwich) and Becky Turner (HELP CETL, University of Plymouth) have organised a further two, one-day events to support practitioners to engage with scholarly activity and research, and provide managers with information and systems that they may need to manage scholarly activity / research within an FEC.  

These events will address key issues for both practitioners and managers within FECs involved with research / scholarly activity, such as:

i. the meaning of scholarly activity/research and how to build a research ethos;

ii. the key research processes, including research design/dissemination;

iii. making funding applications;

iv. key resources to support their engagement with scholarly activity;

v. considerations for and management of scholarly activity/research within an FEC;

vi. institutional impacts from Scholarly Activity / research.

 

The workshops will take place on:

 — 25 March 2010 at Engineering CETL, Loughborough University

 — 11 June 2010 at City of Bristol College, Ashley Down Centre

Research Assistant required

Research Assistant required:

To take a lead role in the evaluation of UEA’s BEACONS for Public Engagement project, which is a novel project funded by Hefce/Welcome Trust/RCUK. Duties will include undertaking reviews, data collection and analysis of activities for evaluation and feeding back into the project to aid future activities. This is a 2 year post that requires a highly capable person to undertake all aspects of evaluation for the project. ESCalate/JISC HE in FE Conference

The ESCalate/JISC HE in FE Conference, Inspiration for Practice will be held on May 26th 2010 at the Trident Centre Warwickshire and the main theme will focus on professional concerns for HE in FE practitioners regarding questions around their status and raising their professional standing - a topic of immediate importance for all HE in FE practitioners.

Developing and enhancing the practice and management of scholarly activity and research within Further Education colleges

The recent introductions of IQER, FDAP, HE strategies and IfL CPD commitments has lead to a much greater emphasis being placed upon staff to engage with research / scholarly activity. To assist colleges in developing their support for these activities, the Higher Education Academy’s HE in FE Enhancement Programme has organised three one-day events designed with both a practitioner and manager focus to provide them with the knowledge, examples, resources and confidence to engage and/or manage these activities. Workshops and presentations will be delivered in parallel for both practitioner and managers that will increase their awareness, knowledge and practice.

Thematic Dissemination Event 10th November 2009 Northamptonshire

Dissemination Event: Thematic Development Projects
First national World Class Skills dissemination event.

Date:  Tuesday 10 November
10am-4pm
Venue: Staverton Park, Northamptonshire

This one day event will present a unique showcase for the providers involved in the initial Thematic Development Projects to share good practice along themed topics of employer responsive provision.  Leading providers have been collaborating to collect, share and improve on good practice in a variety of employer responsive provision.
As a delegate you will benefit from a fully interactive day which will include keynote speakers and many opportunities to learn first hand from the experiences of leading providers.  By sharing in the ideas, issues and implementation of other providers you will be well placed to adapt processes into your own organisation.

In addition, delegates will enjoy trade show style workshops in three themed areas personally selected from the nine thematic development projects.
