National Teaching Fellowship award ceremony

Fifty of the best lecturers and learning support staff in higher education in England and Northern Ireland were recognised for their excellence at an awards ceremony at Middle Temple Hall, London on 23 September 2009.

Postgraduate student experience research

The results of the Higher Education Academy’s 2009 postgraduate taught experience survey (PTES) and postgraduate research experience survey (PRES) are now available.   The two surveys offer the most extensive portrait of postgraduate student experience available, putting the Academy at the forefront of research in this area in the UK.

We accept features, editorials and case studies about Education for Sustainable Development initiatives in the higher education sector.

Mini-Projects for development and research in learning and teaching

The Academy’s Engineering Subject Centre is offering funding of up to £3,500 to engineering departments to enable them to take forward development and research mini projects.  Priority will be given to bids that focus on two themes: student engagement; and embedding Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

Chief Executive retires

The Higher Education Academy has announced that its founding Chief Executive, Professor Paul Ramsden, is to retire from the Academy at the end of the year.

The 2009 National Teaching Fellowships, awarded by the Higher Education Academy, were presented by Dr John Selby, Director (Education and Participation) HEFCE, and Professor Shirley Pearce, Chair of the advisory panel for the awards.

Director of Academic Practice

Professor Sue Law joins the Higher Education Academy on 7 September as Director of Academic Practice. In this new role she will lead the Academy's work on raising the status of teaching in higher education and on promoting the use of evidence-informed practice to improve the student learning experience.

Academy Director wins Nyholm Prize for Education

Professor Tina Overton, Director of the Academy’s Physical Sciences Centre, has won the Royal Society for Chemistry’s Nyholm Prize for Education, which is awarded biennially for outstanding accomplishment in education relating to the chemical sciences.
