Report on Innovative Assessment of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)
In December 2003 the Senior Management Team of City College Norwich received a discussion paper on the possibility of a research project to compare the current traditional methods of assessing NVQ programmes with more innovative approaches. This discussion paper was developed into a project proposal, was accepted and a focus group of NVQ assessors and a research coordinator was established in February 2004 to participate in an ‘action research’ project.
The research was to be conducted through an action research approach consisting of three cycles of data gathering and reflection. The project team also submitted their findings on an ‘ad hoc’ basis via email and face-to-face discussions. Data was collected by questionnaire on preferred assessment methods.
