JISC ITT: SCA: Design, Analysis, Synthesis and Editorial for the Knowledge Base

The JISC, on behalf of the Strategic Content Alliance (SCA), invites tenders to develop a web based knowledge base which will provide insightful analysis and good narrative copy for practitioners and policy makers on the e-content life-cycle.  This will require design, synthesis of existing documentation, editorial and development of a suite of products for the component parts of the e-content life-cycle.

The aims of the work are:

a. To gather and organise relevant information, standards, resources and research relating to the e-content life-cycle from SCA commissioned research and other authoritative resources for delivery via a graphic user interface.

b. To provide a useful and practical resource that will help achieve:

  • Advocacy in the take-up and use of outputs of the SCA in practitioner professional practice – creating a framework within which practitioners can navigate through the e-content life-cycle linking the component parts in terms of authoritative information resources; links to pertinent advice and guidance according to sector specific requirements; and to examples of good practice;
  • Help influence public sector policy makers in the strategic development of e-content by using the graphic user interface to create a framework to work across the public sector for the public good by pulling together a Knowledge Base to share market intelligence and support cross sector working through joint events etc.

c. To achieve this it is anticipated that two aspects will be required:

  • Analysis, collation and synthesis of the component parts of the e-content life-cycle. This narrative should be drafted on the basis that it can be used in other JISC products in the future i.e. create once repurpose many times;
  • The development of a template for a suite of tools produced as part of the narrative for delivery via a graphic user interface, aimed at practitioners and policy makers.

Total funding of between £40,000-£50,000 (including VAT, travel and subsistence) is available for this work. We welcome consortia applications to ensure that the two aspects of the Knowledge Bases i.e. narrative and template design are addressed. The deadline for proposals is 12 noon on Friday 16 January 2009.
